ITALIAN RENAISSANCE DRESSES
Based on Italian dresses from the 15th century as seen in paintings by Ghirlandaio, Crivelli, Cossa and other Renaissance artists, these styles consist of three layers: the high waisted, split skirt overdress (cioppa) worn over a silk underdress (cotta) and a chemise (camicia).

Closed with Pewter Lacing Eyes

For extra "pizzazz" to the classic beauty of velveteen, order the pewter lacing eyes as seen in Crivelli's Paintings of Mary Magdelene, Saint Lucy and Saint Catherine. These serve as closures on the dress and sleeves with the chemise "peeking" through the back openings of the straight sleeves where the pewter lacing eyes are placed at intervals. The sleeve attaches to the bodice with hooks and eyes.

OUR SIZING STANDARDS
Our dresses are not sized by modern sizing standards since period dresses do not fit like modern clothing. The table (right) is merely a guide line to help you in your selection and not a hard and fast rule. Much depends on how you like your clothing to fit and your body style. The first measurement in each "size" is the actual garment measurement at the bustline. You should compare this number to your actual bust measurement.

IF YOU WANT IT TO FIT, BUT NOT "LIFT AND SUPPORT", your bust measurement should be the same at the first number.

IF YOU WANT A FIRM LIFT AND SUPPORT, your bust measurements can go up to the second number (and may possibly exceed it by a small amount).
