DRAWSTRING POUCHES

DRAWSTRING PURSES & POUCHES

All over Western Europe, the purse or pouch was an indespensible item until around the middle of the 16th century when pockets were sewn into clothing. The term "purse" was used for either a man's or woman's bag for carrying money and possessions (when the sleeve or cop-piece was not used). Often these purses or pouches were simple drawstring bags, especially when carried by the lower classes.
