FEATHERS

Feathers were first used to adorn headwear as early as the 13th century, when they were used on helmets. From a single feather, to a multi-feather panache, feathers are a flamboyant fashion statement, saying "Look at me!" Feather arrangement varied a great deal during the Renaissance. Some drooped over the brim, others projected horizontally and still others rose vertically. Tuck a feather or feathers into the brim of your hat, laces, or hat brooch to give your headwear your personal signature.
BROOCH/PIN
This is the perfect brooch to pin up the brim of your wide brimmed hat. Unlike a modern pin this sturdy "circle" brooch is handmade and strong enough to pass through two layers of felt and come back through without breaking. PLUS when you tuck the feathers into the brim, the circle holds them in place.
